Being Exhausted All the Time Is Not Just Part of Getting Older

Being Exhausted All the Time Is Not Just Part of Getting Older

At some point, many women stop asking why they are tired.

We start explaining it away. Life is busy. Work is demanding. The kids need something. The parents need something. Hormones are changing. We are getting older. Of course we are tired.

Then being exhausted starts to feel normal.

That is what caught my attention in the Healthline article about the reasons we can feel so tired. The list includes things we might expect, like poor sleep and chronic stress, but also nutritional deficiencies, an unbalanced diet, inadequate hydration, too much caffeine, certain medications, underlying health conditions, and other factors that deserve attention.

I love this conversation for Body Bella because one of the first things women often begin noticing when they consistently nourish and hydrate their bodies is not necessarily the scale.

It is their energy.

There is a tremendous difference between getting through your day and having enough energy to participate in it.

When you are exhausted, everything becomes harder. Planning a meal feels harder. Cooking feels harder. Moving your body feels harder. Your patience gets shorter. The couch becomes increasingly attractive, and whatever food requires the least thought can suddenly seem like the best option.

Then we blame ourselves for lacking motivation when our body may have been asking for attention all along.

This is one reason we talk so much in Body Bella about the basics that can seem almost too simple to matter. Eating regularly. Nourishing yourself early in the day. Drinking enough water. Paying attention to sleep. Eating real food that gives your body what it requires instead of trying to survive the day on caffeine and good intentions.

Simple does not mean insignificant.

Your body is doing an extraordinary amount of work every minute of every day, and it requires resources to do that work well.

Sometimes there is also something more going on. Persistent or unexplained fatigue can be associated with medical conditions including sleep apnea, thyroid disorders, diabetes, nutrient deficiencies, depression, medication effects, and others. Healthline specifically recommends talking with a healthcare professional when exhaustion continues without an obvious explanation.

That matters because I never want you assuming that feeling terrible is simply the price of getting older.

Your body deserves curiosity before criticism.

Instead of saying, “I’m just tired all the time,” begin noticing the pattern. How are you sleeping? Are you waking rested? Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating enough nourishing food? Has your stress become constant? Has something changed? Does the exhaustion make sense for the life you are currently living, or does something feel off?

Those questions are not about obsessing over your health. They are about paying attention to yourself.

Because your energy matters.

It matters when you want to play with your grandchildren, walk through an airport without feeling wiped out, make dinner without it feeling like one more impossible task, take the trip, go for the hike, work in the garden, meet a friend, or simply get to the end of the day and still feel like there is a little bit of you left.

You were not meant to spend this chapter of your life merely dragging yourself through it.

Sometimes feeling better begins with stopping long enough to ask a very simple question:

Why am I so tired?

And then being willing to listen to the answer.
